"Like My Style" - 50 Cent

So today . . .

is the first day of school. Peanut is going into sixth grade. CRAZY.

I got up extra early [ok, I meant to get up extra early]. But I did manage to crack this out before Peanut walked in:

[those 4's just make me so freaking happy!]
Then, I hurried and finished it up with the end result of this.

And some seriously [awesomely] tired legs. Ya, step-up runs . . . [my legs are coming around to the thought of loving them]

Then it was photo time.

First day of school photo time. Peanut hates this ritual. Can't really blame her.

but. it. is. mandatory.

However, I went to grab my camera and she hit me with . . .

Peanut: Mom, it's all about the shoes. Just get the shoes.
Me: [thinking . . .what in the snot rag have I created?]
Me: ya, ya but we need a full size "it's all about your happy face photo too"
Peanut: well, my shirt is pretty cool.

Then the craziest thing happened . . .

Peanut: you dropping me off or do you have time to walk me in?
Me: [holy. freaking. crap. Did I just get invited to walk her in?] you bet cha I have time.
Peanut: just promise me you won't be like *Jane's* Mom who [as she leaves says], I love you Baby. And gets all wiggy and lovey when she leaves.
Me: deal. no lovey. just a big smooch.
Peanut: mom.
Me: ya ya got it no touching

Best. Morning. Ever.

I said goodbye - she looked at me horrified. Like oh man, how it she going to say "goodbye"? hug? kiss?

I ran my hand over her back.
Ya, apparently, that was not what she wanted.
Told her I could do the running man all the way back to my car.
nope. denied.

So I just stood there looking at her. [feeling super proud, by the way].

Flashed her a "rock on" sign with BOTH hands.
Her face lit up with a huge smile.

And I heard a little mumblish-whisper of an "Iloveyoumum"

As I drove away, I saw "that Mom". You know the one. Straightening her child's hair, making her sit on the front steps of the school - looking all Pollyanna. The little girl's face was beet. [embarrassed].

It could be a lot worse my dear Peanut.

Happy Thursday!

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Do you still "get invited" to take you kiddo to school?
Did you let YOUR parents walk you in? Until what grade?

So, sweet!

I think 6th grade was the last year I let my mom walk me in. As for my kids, my going into 3rd grade daughter is all about it and probably will be for a while. On the other hand, my "too cool for life" going into 1st grade son threw a fit when I told him I was going to walk him in last year for kindergarten. :P

My 7 year old started 3rd grade on Monday. He loves me to walk him in every day. I asked him "is it still cool in 3rd grade?" He said to me "I'm not sure it was cool in 2nd grade mom. But I want you there anyway." LOL! Gotta love the confidence!!

I have to drive the kids to school, but I am absolutely not allowed to get out of the car. My only saving grace in that my 5 year old still wants me to walk her in:) Hope Peanut had a good first day.

For some reason my kid is very proud of me and always invite me in. Maybe because I run with two of his teachers at my running club. They are both young enough to be my daughters I think. We were always late and I just hopped out of the car and had to run in...early start to my running career.

well they are still young..so I get invited still..
pictures of the 2 of them at home and outside the gate not near the 2nd grade area...near the K area ONLY. I help the teachers so the girls in the boys classes like me and Will has figured this out now..so I can come!

First, I love the relationship you have with Peanut. You sound like a rockin' cool mom. And she seems pretty stellar herself!

Secondly, my family had a 15 passenger van that all of us kids were embarrased by. We begged our mom to drop us off a block away. So no, we didn't let her walk us in. Poor mom :(

Honestly, I was never embarrassed to have my father drive me to school. He often would want to drive me to my high school just so we had time to talk. I gave him a hug and kiss as I left. He's my dad.

My boys are still not embarrassed by their old man, but I am sure the time is coming. Hopefully, they will come back around. Just because I often drop them off while wearing 70's length running shorts, compression socks and a t-shirts that reads "Flux Capacitor: 1.21 Jigawatts" does not mean they should be embarrassed of me.... um... right?
